The Voice of Accountability
In life, we have many exterior voices that can speak into our lives, from our parents and schoolmates to our coworkers and significant others.
All these voices will tell us things, but in many cases, they tell us things we want to hear—things like “it’s gonna be okay” and “how could they?”
But, as David Goggins talks about, there’s a much more powerful voice. One we don’t typically like to listen to because of our ego.
Today, I want to talk about this inner voice that is not so quick to let us off the hook. The voice that desires we hold ourselves accountable for the decisions we make.
Have you ever given up on something? Tried a sport and quit? Set out for a goal but didn’t follow through?
There’s a good chance you were listening to the voice that gives you a pass. Our families and friends don’t mean harm, but they sometimes make excuses for us.
This is why the inner voice of accountability is so important because most people you meet would understand if you gave up dating because of a bad relationship or if you gave up on business because you failed once.
The voice of accountability tells us to get up again. It says, “I understand this didn’t work, but that’s no excuse to live as a failure.”
This voice can really be tapped into when we strive for discipline, when we don’t make excuses for our shortcomings, but instead, get into the lab and put in the work.
Pride, ego, and complaining are chewed up and spit out with this voice. This voice doesn’t let you treat people any old way. This voice demands a lot more from you.
With this being said,
Which voice are you listening to?
